Dr. Darren S. Baroni
Dr. Baroni attended Monmouth University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology.  He obtained his Medical Degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Medical School.  He then completed his Internal Medicine residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.  His Gastroenterology fellowship was completed at the Walter Reed Medical Center.  He served several years as an active duty Army Physician, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  His assignments have included Chief of Gastroenterology at Tripler Army Medical Center, Teaching Attending at Walter Reed Medical Center, and a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He is board certified in Gastroenterology, and has particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease, motility disorders, and interventional gastroenterology.  In his spare time, he enjoys military history, gourmet cooking, Redskins football, and beach water sports.Dr.

Edward C. Kim
Dr. Kim graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Science with High Distinction in two years. He earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency at Medical College of Virginia and his Gastroenterology fellowship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He spent an additional year researching pancreatic cancer and then served as an Assistant Professor and Attending in the Gastroenterology department at the State University of New York at Buffalo for five years. During that time, Dr. Kim published a review article as well as pursued research interests in colorectal polyps and cancer. He has been practicing Gastroenterology and Hepatology seventeen years, and he has a special interest in therapeutic endoscopy. He has recently successfully completed his specialty board. He is married with two young children and lives in Gainesville. He has been perennially named a Top Doctor in Washingtonian magazine.

Rizwan Ahmed, M.D.
Dr. Ahmed grew up in Springfield, Virginia. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from Old Dominion University, he earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. He then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was active on the Housestaff Council and received the Residency Teaching Award for excellence in teaching. Dr. Ahmed went on to complete his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC where he served as Chief Fellow. After completion of fellowship in 2009, he practiced as a staff physician and solo Gastroenterologist for 5 years at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in North Carolina. Dr. Ahmed is board certified in Gastroenterology. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and colorectal cancer screening and surveillance. He is active in several national societies. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, spending time with his family, and watching the Washington Redskins and Wizards.

Dr. Myung (Scott) Choi
Dr. Choi grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University. He then completed his medical school, internal medicine residency, and gastroenterology fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia. After finishing his training in 2001, he practiced in New Haven, Connecticut for four years, serving as the director of the Esophageal Manometry Unity at Griffin Hospital, and clinical instructor at Yale University. Before joining Gastroenterology Associates in 2006, he also served as an attending physician at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City, and assistant professor of clinical medicine for the New York Medical College. While at Metropolitan Hospital, he received an award for the Best Physician-Teacher. Dr. Choi is currently the CEO of Gastroenterology Associates, P.C. and the medical director of digestive disease at Novant Health Prince William and Haymarket Hospitals. His special interests include esophageal disorders, wireless capsule and biliary endoscopy, and the role of probiotics in digestive disease. He enjoys martial arts, skiing, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Tinatin (Tika) O’Connell
Dr. Khizanishvili earned her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology and Psychology. She obtained her medical degree at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and subsequently completed her internal medicine internship and residency at Boston University Medical Center in Boston, MA. Dr. Khizanishvili completed her gastroenterology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. Her clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease and women’s issues in gastroenterology. She enjoys travel, photography, and staying physically active.

Dr. Nina Phatak
Dr. Phatak grew up in Long Island, New York.  She attended Columbia University and graduated Cum Laude.  She attended University of Rochester School of Medicine where she was elected Alpha Omega Alpha (National Medical Honor Society).  Dr. Phatak completed her Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she received full training in liver and digestive disorders.  She received the American College of Gastroenterology’s Fellow in Training award for her research.  After her training, she practiced as a staff physician in the Veteran’s Administration hospital in Philadelphia as well as a clinical instructor at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Phatak is board certified in  Gastroenterology.  Her clinical interests include colon polyps and cancer, gastroenterological bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease and women’s issues in gastroenterology.

Dr. Mylan Satchi
Mylan Satchi, M.D. is a Board Certified physician who received his MD/MPH from St. George’s University. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, chief residency, and gastroenterology fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. This included training in transplant hepatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and inflammatory bowel disease at the University of Chicago. Dr. Satchi’s clinical interests encompass the entire scope of gastroenterology, with special interests in colon cancer screening, gastroesophageal reflux management, and inflammatory bowel disease. He has authored several publications, abstracts, and presentations given at national meetings.

For the past 5 years, Dr. Satchi served as an attending gastroenterologist at Lenox Hill Hospital and was part of the key clinical faculty for the fellowship program, serving as the education coordinator. He was closely involved in the education of medical students, residents, and gastroenterology fellows. He has an additional interest in community education and public health awareness of gastrointestinal diseases. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and watching the New York Giants.
